What Am I?

Iza Trapani's debut picture book grew from a riddle she made up about a turtle on a mountain bike ride, and the participatory guessing-game format she built around it is a natural fit for the youngest readers. Each spread presents descriptive clues about an animal and invites a child to guess before the reveal — simple, tactile, and genuinely engaging for toddlers and preschoolers who love calling out answers. Trapani went on to considerable success with her nursery rhyme extensions, and the seeds of that warm, accessible style are here. The honest caveat is uncertainty: this is an early, out-of-print title with very little critical record available, so the review is based on limited information.
