Book six in a series delivers exactly what a book-six reader wants — a familiar world, an entertaining villain, a small animal in peril, and a pony with magical problem-solving ability. That is fine if you are already in the Magic Pony ecosystem, but as a standalone recommendation it is too formulaic and too lightly documented to rise above middling. Early chapter book readers with a pony-and-school fixation will enjoy it; everyone else can start elsewhere.
